I don’t propose to do it all myself. Running a growing business as a sole proprietor is a lot of work. When I need assistance, I am not afraid to ask for it.
Currently, my challenge is to expand from two trucks on the road to three. That means to develop my crew members into crew leaders and to upgrade business processes, making them more streamlined for better customer service.
At Earth Angel Landscaping and Property Maintenance, we have been given help from a great government agency to hire and train our team members and this blog is in part to thank them and give them the recognition they deserve and also to alert any other small business people about helpful programs.
Funded under the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the BEC offers programs to employers at no cost. My primary engagement with them recently has been to offset my own costs when I was looking to hire new workers and train them.
Lots of companies, well over 100 every year, take advantage of BEC programs and he BEC doesn’t just send you any candidate, they make sure that that candidate is the right fit, and that can make all the difference. The BEC, with an interest in the development of workers, follows up at the 3-month point, and their statistics show a very high retention rate of employees that go through the program. Every employer knows the value of finding, training AND retaining employees.
That value is in real dollars. I have been able to sink those dollars back into my business - making my company more viable, which in turn makes the job prospect a long term one.
Incentives are available for 8-week training and 12-week training periods, depending on the employers needs. Any company can benefit, from the coffee shop down the street to the social media company helping to write blogs like this one.
BEC employment services really does save you time and they do save you money when you hire staff through them.
